Surgeon-Turned-Singer Tim Camrose Begins U.S. Music Chapter With “Empty Roads”

From surgery to songwriting, Tim Camrose unveils his U.S.-inspired single “Empty Roads.”

After four decades in medicine, UK-based Tim Camrose is embarking on a surprising second act. The retired surgeon and professor is now pursuing his lifelong calling in music—introducing himself to American listeners with the evocative single “Empty Roads.”

The track was born out of a reflective Californian road trip with his wife, becoming a musical expression of a deep-rooted connection to the U.S. “Empty Roads” previews Tim’s upcoming album ‘American Stories,’ a body of work grounded in personal travel experiences from places like Chicago, San Diego, Venice Beach, and New York City.

Though Camrose began writing songs as a youth in London, he left his guitar behind when entering medical school. Yet, songwriting followed him. “Tunes and lyrics would come to him,” even during long flights, the press release notes.

Now retired, he’s giving life to those ideas. His tracks draw on both hope and heartbreak: “Didn’t Say” honors his late parents, “Scared Anymore” was written after his brother’s passing, and “Fly Again” tells a story of unconditional love across generations.

There’s also a strong social awareness in his work. “A Light in the Dark” was inspired by the homeless youth he encountered as a doctor—stories he now amplifies through music.

Having recently played London’s Dublin Castle and Band on the Wall in Manchester, Camrose is positioning his songs for broader audiences. With a sound reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel, and with plans for more releases and shows, Tim Camrose is proof that it’s never too late to chase a dream.
