Obongjayar drops “Jellyfish,” a synth-punk protest track from his new album “PARADISE NOW”, out May 30.

Obongjayar returns with his electrifying new single “Jellyfish,” the latest preview of his highly anticipated second album “PARADISE NOW”, due for release on May 30 via September Recordings. Made in collaboration with Carlos O’Connell of Fontaines D.C. and Kwes Darko (Denzel Curry, Pa Salieu, John Glacier), “Jellyfish” is a raw and energized synth-punk anthem layered with drum and bass undertones and elements from Obongjayar’s Nigerian roots.

In a recent interview with The Observer, Obongjayar described “Jellyfish” as a diss track aimed at political and corporate hypocrisy, revealing that the track expresses deep frustration with those in power.

“Seeing how governments move, people in power, corporations – [for] whatever monetary reasons you sell yourself,” he said, with Observer writer Tara Joshi calling it “a scathing song about spineless British politicians.”

“Jellyfish” follows previously released singles “Sweet Danger,” “Not in Surrender,” and “Just My Luck,” each showcasing the breadth of Obongjayar’s sonic and lyrical range. The upcoming album, produced between London and LA with Kwes Darko, Yeti Beats (Doja Cat), and Beach Noise (Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem), dives into themes like grief, procrastination, FOMO, and transcendence, set to dynamic synths and sweeping arrangements.

This summer, Obongjayar will make his debut U.S. headline tour, beginning July 24 and including an appearance at Newport Folk Festival. A full UK/EU tour kicks off November 14, culminating with his biggest London show yet at O2 Kentish Town Forum.
