“Carried Away” marks Nell Mescal’s next era—emotive, honest, and produced in Brooklyn.

After a string of intimate shows and rising festival appearances, Nell Mescal returns with the evocative new single “Carried Away.” This release is her first under Atlantic Records and the beginning of her next body of work since her debut EP Can I Miss It For A Minute?

The track was crafted during recording sessions in Brooklyn with producer Philip Weinrobe. Known for his collaborations with Adrianne Lenker and Cass McCombs, Weinrobe helped steer the song toward a fuller sound and deeper emotional tone.

Describing the theme, Nell shares: “It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a tumultuous relationship with and being disappointed by their answer. Instead of saying they love you back, they say they just got carried away.”

Nell also opened up about the studio experience: “The demo of this vs the finished product is so different and it was so exciting to create in the studio. I played it with just me and a guitar for the band and after playing it once everyone joined in and it immediately became clear the direction we were headed in. Philip had some amazing ideas. We thought about doing a lyric change in the second pre chorus and he had the entire band play the same section over and over again while I wrote as quickly as possible…and it really elevated the song.”

Along with the single, a music video is now live on YouTube. Nell recently performed at Somerset House’s “Summer Session” and TRNSMT Festival, with upcoming sets scheduled for Reading & Leeds and Newcastle’s Come Together Festival. A major UK tour is on the horizon for late 2025.
