Mae Muller is back with “Breakaway,” a confident, club-ready anthem marking her new independent chapter.
Rising UK pop sensation Mae Muller launches a bold new chapter with the release of her latest single, “Breakaway.” Out now, the track arrives after a 15-month hiatus and marks her first release as an independent artist, introducing a fresh sonic direction and unmistakable sense of self.
Produced by Herik Michelsen and written by Mae herself, “Breakaway” is a glowing dance-pop anthem that showcases the North London native’s emotional honesty and club-forward sensibilities. The track’s driving beat and propulsive bassline are laced with vocoded vocals and shimmering electronic textures, creating a soundscape that nods to 2000s dance culture while remaining unmistakably contemporary.
“I wrote Breakaway in a time when I felt quite lost as an artist,” Mae says. “I was putting so much pressure on myself with my newfound independence, that after a while I just decided to get in the studio and pour everything out… It’s about navigating vulnerability, but also finding my power within it, whilst not losing the joy along the way.”
The accompanying video, directed by Ben Cole (Kylie, Mahalia), channels the track’s raw intensity through haunting visuals and frenetic energy, mirroring the emotional release of a night out and the internal reflection that follows.
“Breakaway” signals a creative and personal evolution for Mae. Known for blending playful sass with lyrical introspection, she now brings a more intimate lens to her songwriting while maintaining the fearless spirit fans love. It’s the beginning of a new, empowered era—and Mae Muller is firmly back in control.
