Lord Huron returns with their first original release in two years, “Who Laughs Last?” The single, out now via Mercury Records, features Academy Award-nominated actress Kristen Stewart, marking her debut as a recording artist. With a hypnotic blend of haunting spoken word and cinematic noir, the track represents the Los Angeles-based band’s latest creative evolution.
Opening with a rumbling guitar riff and a driving beat, “Who Laughs Last?” showcases a dark and atmospheric journey. Kristen Stewart delivers chilling spoken word as garbled news broadcast samples and strings build tension. Stewart reflects on an oncoming storm: “It made me feel something I never felt before…something between awestruck and horrified.” The intensity builds as Ben Schneider’s vocals arrive, leading into the song’s compelling hook: “You don’t remember what I said, but you’ll remember what I did.”
The accompanying video, starring Kristen Stewart, complements the track’s Lynchian film-noir aesthetic. Together, the visuals and music form a captivating, surreal narrative. 
Speaking about the collaboration, Schneider shared: “I didn’t know Kristen previously, but I’d been a big fan since seeing her work with Olivier Assayas. When I wrote the song, I kept hearing her voice in my head. I thought it was a long shot, but I reached out, and she was interested. We hit it off talking about books, movies, and music. It was the kind of collaboration you dream of—she added so much to the project.”
As always, Lord Huron leaves fans eager for what’s to come. “Who Laughs Last?” is the first glimpse of what promises to be another epic creative chapter for the band.
