Grace VanderWaal releases ‘Babydoll’ featuring Aliyah’s Interlude, a bold new pop anthem marking her next musical chapter.
Grace VanderWaal is back with an energetic new single, “Babydoll” featuring Aliyah’s Interlude, out now. The upbeat track follows the introspective “What’s Left of Me” and signals an exciting new era for the award-winning artist and actress. Accompanying the release is an official music video, directed by Sophie Hur.
Sharing insight into the creative process, VanderWaal explains:
“In the studio, we were talking about acting bratty, going out, wanting everything, and being a diva. Tiffany Stringer and I had the idea to write a song from our alter ego’s perspective. We named mine Baby Doll: who doesn’t like to be told no. I had an amazing time writing and creating it.”
The release comes after a monumental 2024, where VanderWaal delivered a memorable performance at the Kennedy Center Honors and made her mark in Francis Ford Coppola’s epic film, Megalopolis, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to a seven-minute standing ovation.
VanderWaal first rose to prominence with her 2016 debut EP, Imperfectly Perfect, which became the year’s biggest-selling EP and landed in the Billboard 200 Top 10. She followed with the critically acclaimed full-length album Just The Beginning and has since toured with Florence + the Machine and Imagine Dragons.
Now stepping into a new independent chapter, VanderWaal is taking full creative control of her next musical statement.
