Connecticut-born Nigerian American R&B songstress AFRICAINE has officially introduced her musical identity to the world with the release of her highly anticipated debut EP, For Me, This Time. Drawing creative inspiration from luminaries such as Alicia Keys, Jazmine Sullivan, Tiwa Savage, and Amaarae, AFRICAINE crafts a narrative centered on the fundamental necessity of choosing oneself. The eight-track EP reflects her unique background, deeply informed by her gospel roots, a tri-state New York perspective, and her Southeastern Nigerian heritage. The creative journey behind the EP was as diverse as its sonic palette. While much of the record was meticulously cultivated in the artist’s home studio, the track ‘Whatever’ was developed in Los Angeles alongside GRAMMY-nominated producer Rob Aragón through a series of instinctive, live-recorded sessions. The project also highlights her experimental artistic process; for instance, ‘Before’ was written and recorded entirely without instrumental backing to ensure the raw emotion directed the narrative, while the title track, ‘For Me, This Time,’ was birthed from the atmospheric production of TUC, known for his work with Wizkid and Oxlade.
