Gordi shares ‘Like Plasticine’, written over years of change, with ‘Your Consolation Prize’ and a wide, heartfelt tracklist.
The next chapter of Gordi’s story begins with ‘Like Plasticine’, a third album shaped by resilience and discovery. Its release follows a sprint of special moments, from European dates with Foster The People to standout US shows at Lollapalooza and Hinterland Festival, capped by appearances on The Kelly Clarkson Show, CBS Mornings, and a KEXP session. Home in Australia for a short stay before more touring, she welcomes listeners into a body of work crafted with patience and love.
“Today, as I finally set this album free, I am reminded of its beginning. Deep in the middle of the pandemic I began writing the songs that would make up ‘Like Plasticine’, wondering what the purpose of music was at all. I tried to stop thinking and just feel. When I look back on that time now, sitting in Phoenix Central Park surrounded by things I could make music with, I see ‘Like Plasticine’ arriving as though it was a fire hydrant erupting. Everything we try to contain comes out one way or another. So when you listen to this record, un-contain yourself, stop thinking, and just feel. – Gordi”
The album chronicles a series of life shifts. Gordi writes about coming out and reimagining the road ahead, and she draws from her service as a doctor during the pandemic. That mixture of compassion and clarity guides 12 songs that touch on the fragile and the luminous parts of being human.
To mark release day, Gordi unveils the video for ‘Your Consolation Prize’. Co produced with Brad Cook, whose credits include Snail Mail, Jensen McRae, and Bon Iver, the song nods to synth pop visionaries with drum machines and a soft choir bloom. It reflects on the reality that even with growing acceptance and closeness since coming out, some young queer lives may still be met with asterisks.
The tracklist highlights include ‘Peripheral Lover’, ‘Cutting Room Floor’, ‘PVC Divide’ with Anaïs Mitchell, and ‘Lunch At Dune’. ‘Like Plasticine’ feels generous and grounded, a welcoming space for feeling and reflection, ready to soundtrack what comes next.
