Indie-pop artist Healy drops “RUNNING LAPS,” a meditative new single exploring cycles of self-sabotage.
Genre-blending artist Healy returns with “RUNNING LAPS,” his first new release in over two years. Known for his emotive, genre-fluid approach and over 200 million catalog streams, Healy’s latest single is an introspective indie-pop reflection on breaking free from toxic cycles and mental loops.
“Am I departing from my old self and habits, or have I been just self-sabotaging and giving up when the going gets tough?” Healy asks. “The imagery that came to mind was that iconic photo of Muhammad Ali looking over Sonny Liston — my higher self being down on the ground.”
With “RUNNING LAPS,” Healy shows a clear artistic evolution while maintaining the sincerity that’s long defined his work. The track adds to a body of work that’s earned him co-signs from SZA, collaborations with Cautious Clay, and the release of his 2023 EP Look at God.
Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Healy grew up immersed in gospel choirs, soul, and Southern hip-hop. After graduating from medical school for physical therapy, he shifted full-time into music. His debut album, Subluxe (2017), paved the way for a major label deal with RCA and his critically praised 2021 album, Tungsten, supported by SZA and Khalid.
With “RUNNING LAPS,” Healy invites listeners deeper into his inner world—balancing vulnerability and musical craftsmanship in equal measure. Stay tuned for more music to come from this rising voice in alternative and indie-pop.
