Lindsay Ell collaborates with Nightly on “i shouldn’t call you,” an emotional track exploring heartache and self-love, out now via Universal Music Canada.

Fresh off the release of her EP love myself, award-winning artist Lindsay Ell is back with a powerful new single, “i shouldn’t call you”, featuring Nightly. Released via Universal Music Canada, the song explores the emotional journey from heartache to closure, blending haunting melodies with dynamic instrumentation.

Co-written by Lindsay Ell and Nightly, and co-produced by Ell and Doug Schadt, the track begins with minimal instrumentation and reverb-soaked vocals, before building into an intensely percussive, guitar-driven finale. Reflecting on its message, Lindsay shares:

“‘i shouldn’t call you’ is the perfect follow-up to love myself, because when you start to love yourself, you can see what you are worthy of and the things that don’t fit become clearer. I wrote this song to be the soundtrack for the honest struggle of coming to terms with realizing someone doesn’t fit in your life anymore.” – Lindsay Ell

Lindsay Ell’s honest storytelling and signature guitar work have earned her critical acclaim. Speaking to American Songwriter, she reflected on her growth as an artist, stating, “I really believe that music is supposed to feel like this healing process when you write it and listen to it.”

Recently, Ell delivered an electrifying New Year’s Eve performance alongside Shania Twain and continues as the lead guitarist for Twain’s Las Vegas residency. With an album expected later this year, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Lindsay Ell.
