BANKS releases “Love Is Unkind,” a brooding track exploring toxic love, ahead of her upcoming album Off With Her Head, out February 28.
BANKS, the globally acclaimed singer-songwriter, has released her brand-new single, “Love Is Unkind,” via ADA Worldwide. The emotionally charged track explores the complexities of a toxic relationship, capturing a sense of heartbreak and self-reflection. The single will appear on her highly anticipated fifth studio album, Off With Her Head, set to release on February 28, 2025.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, BANKS shares: “‘Love Is Unkind’ is about an emotionally dangerous relationship that had me running around in circles. It’s about how love can be unkind and masochistic. Rewinding your memory and seeing things clearly.”
With its haunting production and introspective lyrics, “Love Is Unkind” marks a return to the sonic roots that defined her iconic debut album, Goddess. BANKS elaborates: “In many ways, it’s a big sister album to Goddess. After a decade apart, I’ve reunited with the core musicians and producers who helped shape my debut. At the same time, it’s something entirely different—I’ve grown so much as an artist and a person, and the journey is documented in all these sounds.”
Off With Her Head will also feature previously released singles “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend” featuring Doechii and “Best Friends.” Fans can pre-order the album now, with a special vinyl edition available in a stunning brown LP format.
“Love Is Unkind” continues to showcase BANKS’ evolution as a songwriter, blending vulnerability with her signature dark and atmospheric sound. This release sets the stage for what promises to be one of the most powerful projects of her career.
