Kate Peytavin’s debut EP Generation Numb captures powerful emotions with influences from ’90s alt-rock and coming-of-age classics.
19-year-old alt-pop artist Kate Peytavin releases her debut EP Generation Numb, a deeply personal collection that explores the emotional experience of growing up in a desensitized world. Out now via Capitol Records/S10 Records, Generation Numb delves into complex feelings through six tracks driven by Peytavin’s captivating vocals and fearless lyricism.
Inspired by ’90s alt-rock, the EP is both energetic and introspective, showcasing Peytavin’s talent for melding frenetic instrumentation with intimate storytelling. Each track captures her journey, crafted with the help of notable producers and co-writers like Jeremy Hatcher, Paris Carney, Mark Nilan Jr., and Mozella.
Generation Numb takes its title from its closing track, “i don’t feel anything,” a single that caught the attention of John Mayer, who featured it on his SiriusXM show and said, “she’s a cool artist and it is my pleasure to spread the gospel of Kate Peytavin.” Other tracks include “HELP!” a bold single with bouncy basslines and gang vocals, and “hang a mirror on yourself,” an acoustic-led look at self-involvement in relationships.
Throughout the EP, Peytavin tackles themes of self-reflection and emotional numbness, brought to life in songs like “happy when i’m sad” and “under it.” With her confessional lyrics and nostalgic sound, Generation Numb is a must-listen debut that captures Peytavin’s raw emotional journey.
